Unpublished?

It's not your fault.

Most of what you've been taught about writing a novel is wrong.

If you're like most unpublished writers, you're used to people lying to you. You know who I mean: the conferences and coaches and rip-off agencies who promise you that all you need is an introduction to an agent or editor, or a "polish" by their experienced staff. They're the ones that tell you that editors won't look at a manuscript that hasn't been professionally edited.

None of this is true. At some level, whether you're willing to admit it or not, you know that. They're selling false hope and preying on those cognitive dissonances that exist in every writer.

Are you ready for the truth?

Hi. I'm Cyn Mobley and I've made my living as a writer for almost fifteen years now. I've been published by about half of the big New York publishers, in both fiction and nonfiction, and I run a few small press imprints myself. I know what it takes to get published.

Click READ MORE if you want to learn more about BAMWriters. Or scroll on down to read some ground truth about being a writer. The first thing you need is a reality check about being a writer and then some ground truth about where you are in the process. Take a look at the articles below. Then, if you want to, you can register and select the free membership to get access to more articles, including my infamous query letter template.

Finally, if you want to join a no-nonsense, eat-what-you-kill community of writers, subscribe. By then you'll have a fair idea of what we're about, and the subscription is month by month. Bail out any time. Subscribers get access to e-books, the forum (I'll be spending a lot of time there) and the advanced stuff.

And a reality check. Don't forget the reality check.

Listen to what my students say:

Cyn Mobley is the best writing instructor I've ever had. Her ability to get to the heart of a problem is amazing. Writers are by nature creative and full of extraneous ideas that lead down dead end paths. Cyn's structure provides a clear map through the novel's maze. She involves herself in each writer's work and makes suggestions that enhance it. If I'd encountered Cyn Mobley earlier, I would have been spared years of wandering in the maze.
- Ann Simpson

I completed Nanowrimo last year and am still trying to get that first draft ready to submit. If I had had Cyn Mobley's techniques before I began last year (like I will this year), I would probably already be submitting my book.
- Nancy Wahler

Cyn's hands-on instructions are like an anchor in the churning sea of writing confusion. She shows how to gain control of chaotic words, strengthen characters and plot, and steer the whole story into the harbor of authorship. The benefits of her tutelage are great.
- Ruth L. Brown

I have been a writer for many decades but always willing to learn more. As a member of the Knoxville Writer's Guild, I thought a class being taught by Cyn Mobley might be interesting.

It was more than interesting; it was a delight! Cyn conducts a fun class so that you don't want to miss anything. Besides, you are learning from a teacher who has "been there" in the writing field and has many practical suggestions. I would encourage anyone who wants to learn more in the writing field to take one of her classes.
- Joyce Petrak, DCH

"Having attended conferences all over the country you can imagine my surprise when I found the best writing teacher right here in Knoxville TN. If you want to know what it takes to be a successful writer, then listen to Cyn."
- Todd Howard.
